Friend or family member of someone incarcerated at Deuel Vocational Institute (DVI), state men’s prison.


Friends Outside is a non-profit agency that assists families and friends of incarcerated men at DVI, at the Friends Outside Visiting Center. It serves the children and works to maintain family unification. Emergency clothing, food and shelter and children’s programs are also offered. Transportation from the Greyhound and Amtrack stations in Stockton is provided. Reservations must be made one week in advance. Child care for children ages 7 years and older is available. Open to anyone of any age who has been detained or incarcerated, or is at risk. Services for individuals and/or family members. Intensive case management for individuals who are transitioning away from antisocial to prosocial lifestyles. Support and resources for those who have used violence to resolve conflicts in the past. Advocacy on behalf of children, families and adults.

Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for questions, Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
