Anyone of any age who has had contact with the adult justice system, whether or not that person has been adjudicated, and family members. Service locations include local and statewide prisons (locally California Health Care Facility), San Joaquin County Jail, and all other state prisons in California.

Friends Outside has provided support for individuals and families during transition in order to reduce risk and improve wellbeing, including parenting education, employment preparation and search, planning and prioritizing, mentoring, and supporting hope for those who are struggling.

Services include:

Case Management & Mentoring - Personalized reentry plans help individuals rebuild stability and move forward. Support may include:

  • Employment and housing assistance
  • Basic needs support
  • Parole/probation compliance
  • Family reunification
  • Sobriety and mental health support
  • Anger management
  • Referrals to community programs
  • Warrant reduction assistance

Employment Readiness - Free services for anyone with past incarceration, focused on job readiness and overcoming employment barriers. Support includes:

  • Resumes and applications
  • Job search and interview practice
  • Guidance on discussing criminal history
  • Workplace communication skills
  • Referrals to training programs
  • Skill-building workshops

Group Education & Support - Small, professionally facilitated groups (in person or online) offer education and peer support. Topics include:

  • Anger and conflict management
  • Parenting
  • Sobriety and dual diagnosis
  • Financial literacy
  • Support for families affected by incarceration

Support for Children & Families - helping families stay connected during incarceration and reunification. Services may include:

  • Education about the justice system
  • Information and referrals
  • Family and topic-specific support groups
  • Inclusion in a loved one’s case plan

Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
