Economically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 18 and 24 years and in need of a high school diploma.
SJCOE YouthBuild San Joaquin program provides nine-month training that is a federally funded partnership between the San Joaquin County Office of Education and Stocktonians Taking Action to Neutralize Drugs. Their mission is to assist undereducated and unemployed young adults, ages 18 to 24 years, to work toward completion of a high school diploma. They also learn construction skills while building and/or renovating affordable housing, develop leadership skills by becoming involved in their community, and secure apprenticeships as well as jobs within the construction industry after completing the program. This is a comprehensive program that focuses on nontraditional approaches to education and paid on-the-job training.
