The Table Community Foundation’s (TCF) mission is to create a better world through change in youth one community at a time. They are committed to creating solutions by recognizing the need for innovative approaches to address existing problems in order to empower and partner with communities, other non-profit organizations and local stakeholders. These partnerships will provide the tools and resources necessary to build a safe place to live, work and play. Their unique focus on the people of the community is driven by their belief that no child is a product of their community, but rather a product of the opportunities made available to them.
- Step-Up Afterschool Program provides Stockton Unified School District students with free arts and literacy-based after school programs which include academic support, arts programming, enrichment activities and sports in a safe and caring environment.
- The Scholars Program was created as an intervention course for at-risk students that addresses a variety of academic, social and behavioral needs. As a result students are motivated to improve their overall scholastic performance due to being exposed to the value of education through a culturally responsive curriculum.
- The Gift of Giving is a holiday event TCF was created as a way to reward children who have demonstrated a giving heart with a shopping spree, catered meal and special guest speakers who have made a positive impact in the community.
- Founded in 2007, A.I.M is a peer-to-peer mentorship program with a mission to transform students into better people by teaching them the skills needed to become successful leaders.
- The most effective behavior management technique is the easiest to implement: ”catching ’em being good.” Research shows us that the quickest and most effective way to promote the display of appropriate behaviors is to reward them (e.g., touch, a smile, a “thank you,” praise, points, food); whatever would be reinforcing to those youngsters.
- President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper initiative to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their full potential. Through this initiative cities and towns, businesses, and foundations are taking important steps to connect young people to mentoring, support networks, and the skills they need to find a good job or go to college and work their way into the middle class.
- TCF's goal is to support a sustainable learning garden in every Stockton Unified School to encourage health eating and increase students' science knowledge. School gardens supports schools across San Joaquin County to grow vibrant learning gardens. From wellness programming to community outreach, hands-on STEM to social and emotional skill building, they believe that gardens are an invaluable tool for teaching and learning for the classroom, the cafeteria, and beyond
- Spelling Bees is an educational multi-player activity for word spelling practice. Students build beehives by correctly spelling the given computer-voiced words. Whoever builds the highest beehive in the time allowed wins. One to 4 players can play at once.
- STEM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the practices and processes of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education prepares students to be “option-ready” for science, technology, engineering and math in the students’ next learning opportunity. Students must be prepared to embrace new opportunities and challenges in order to successfully transition from school to post-secondary education and/or careers.
- The goal of the Christmas Gift Give-Away program is to communicate a message of hope. The program serves families who are needy and the goal is that by communicating hope in the midst of dire needs (through the giving of new toys), that children will see beyond their circumstances to grow into productive and responsible citizens.
