Adult Literacy is a FREE countywide program that matches adult learners ages 16 years and over with volunteer tutors for confidential one-on-one tutoring. Students are assessed and generally read at a 4th grade reading level. Tutors help students improve their reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension. Pairs meet at any branch library throughout San Joaquin County once or twice a week, one to one and a half hours per session and are asked to make a six-month commitment. Volunteer training and all resources are provided and pairs are matched based on the days and times of availability.

Career Online High School is a scholarship program available for people to receive their high school diploma and a certificate for one of six offerings (security guard, food services, truck driving, etc.). The full high school program is set up to be completed in eighteen months. Transcripts of any time in high school will be accepted and evaluated so time may be less. To register for an opportunity to be involved in this program, go to their website.
