Medical Therapy Program (MTP)

Must be 0 to 21 years of age, be a resident of San Joaquin County and have a qualifying condition such as:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Spina bifida
  • Arthrogryposis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Osteogenesis imperfecta
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Head injury

There is no financial eligibility requirement for MTP services. There is a financial eligibility requirement for specialized equipment.

Medical Therapy Program (MTP) is a special program within California Children’s Services that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medical therapy conference services in outpatient clinics located in designated public schools for children who have handicapping conditions generally due to neurological or musculoskeletal disorders.

Services provided include:

  • “Medically necessary” physical therapy and occupational therapy services to eligible patients at no cost
  • Attendance at school meetings such an Individualized Education Plan (IEPs)
  • Home and school site visits to assess specific equipment needs
  • Evaluation and custom fitting of durable medical equipment, such as wheelchairs (if financially eligible)
  • Medical Therapy Conferences (Clinic) which are conducted by a team of health specialists who assist in managing your child’s therapy program and special needs. The conference is designed to provide a team approach to your child’s special needs at no cost.

Anyone, such as a parent, teacher, school nurse, or physician can refer a child or young adult to the MTP.

Therapy services are provided at rehabilitative units called "Medical Therapy Units" (MTU), in a school setting at four locations in San Joaquin County:
  • Washington MTU (Lodi)
  • Hoover MTU (Stockton)
  • McFall MTU (Manteca)
  • McKinley MTU (Tracy)

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
