Proposition 36 (Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act) program is designed to offer non-violent drug offenders treatment as an alternative to incarceration. In 2026, it aligns with updated regulations focusing on "treatment-mandated felonies" for individuals with repeat drug or theft convictions.

Treatment components include drug education, outpatient/residential treatment, detoxification, and drug testing. Successful completion of the program may lead to dismissal of charges.
