Safe Surrender Baby Program provides an option for a parent to surrender a baby whom they might otherwise abandon in an unsafe place. The Safely Surrendered Baby Law establishes a procedure for the voluntary surrender of a baby within 72 hours of birth. Under this law, parent(s) can safely surrender their baby and be protected from prosecution for child abandonment. It does not require that names be given and allows the parent(s) at least 14 days to reclaim the baby. For Safe Surrender locations within California, please call the Toll Free Hotline.
