Stockton Unified School District's Early Childhood Education/School Readiness Department offers 48 State & Title 1 funded Preschool classes, four of which are Pre-K Family Literacy Preschools located at Fillmore, Monroe, Roosevelt and Washington schools. Those sites operate the Raising A Reader Take Home Book program that encourages establishing reading routines in the home. Stockton Unified School District offers a program where children can develop intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally in a nurturing setting. SUSD offers many services to children and families enrolled in the preschool program including health screenings, nutrition & healthy lifestyle, social services, and behavioral intervention services. Senate Bill 1016 amended California Education Code requiring agencies to assess fees for families receiving State preschool services. Eligibility and the family fee is assessed using an income schedule and the following factors: family income, family size, children enrolled in other programs that have assessed a family fee.
In addition to State preschools, SUSD operates five First 5 funded preschools located at Fillmore, Henry, and Hong-Kingston Elementary Schools. Families must live within the school attendance zone to attend these preschools and are not subject to any fees. These sites include parent support services in partnership with the University of the Pacific. Case management, health screenings, summer bridge programs, nutrition & healthy lifestyle, behavioral intervention services, and the Raising A Reader Take Home Book program for enrolled families.
