SIM, Inc. focuses on the positive aspects of Stockton, including its rich history, and strives to celebrate these positive aspects through events, presentations and published materials.
Family friendly and free! The Celebrate Stockton is Magnificent event began in the spring of 2011 when Forbes Magazine again assessed this great city as the ‘Most Miserable City in the US’. Several like-minded individuals collaborated on a street party to show Forbes Magazine that there are proud Stocktonians who feel that Forbes' criterion was flawed and that there are a great many magnificent things about this city–especially the people. The street party was a huge success and has continued to today with a focus away from Forbes and on building civic pride in this community. In 2013, the event committee filed for nonprofit status –Stockton is Magnificent, Inc. to continue to produce the event as well as produce Stockton history programs for local schools. Held the first three years on the Miracle Mile the 2014 event was held in Victory Park to allow for more shade and more space for booths. The 2016 event was held at Delta College in the new plaza. Booth space is free to nonprofit organizations, community organizations and business working to improve the lives of Stockton citizens. The event will continue to be free to participants and free to guests due to the generosity of local businesses who are sponsors and supporters of the event.
