Keep Your Home California is a free service for homeowners who have suffered a financial hardship, to help them stay in their homes, maintain an affordable mortgage payment and avoid foreclosure.

The following are brief summaries of the programs offered under Keep Your Home California:

  • Unemployment Mortgage Assistance Program: Mortgage assistance of up to $54,000 for unemployed homeowners who are collecting unemployment benefits from the State of California’s Employment Development Department (EDD)
  • Mortgage Reinstatement Assistance Program: Funding of up to $54,000 to help qualified homeowners catch up on their past-due mortgage payments
  • Principal Reduction Program: Homeowners who owe more than their home is worth and/or have unaffordable monthly mortgage payments can qualify for up to $100,000 in assistance to reduce their outstanding principal balance, often resulting in lower monthly payments
  • Transition Assistance Program: Qualifying homeowners can received up to $5,000 to help with relocation costs after executing a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure
