Family law cases such as dissolution of marriage, uniform parentage and governmental child support, medical support and cases involving children.
San Joaquin County Family Law Facilitator/Pro Per Clinic provides a variety of services for parties without legal representation. One attorney and a team of paralegals answer general legal questions, explain basic court procedures and help parties fill out family court papers. No legal advice is given and they do not go to court with either party. Both parties may receive assistance from the clinic. Do not bring children to the clinic. Bilingual assistance (Spanish and Japanese) is available.
Assistance is given for the establishment of child support orders, modification of those orders and the enforcement of orders. For certain legal actions, referrals are made to other community resources. The following areas are not specifically covered by the clinic: bankruptcy, small claims QORO’s, and unlawful detainers. In addition, custody agreements and modification, guardianship and step parent adoption assistance, dissolution of marriage, nullity, legal separation, domestic violence, emancipation, civil name change and establishing paternity is offered.
Conservatorship Orientations are held on the first and third Monday of each month, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Courthouse located at 540 East Main Street.
Guardianship Orientations are held each Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Courthouse located at 540 East Main Street. You must pre-register at 10:30 a.m.
An evening clinic is available one evening per month at Humphreys College, located at 6650 Inglewood Avenue, Stockton. The clinic is instructed at the Law School Court Room from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month.
