The Ripon Fire District covers an area of approximately 55 square miles. Only 3.5 square miles is within the city limits. The original Ripon Fire District was created in 1921, before the City of Ripon incorporated, and consisted of one square mile. The Ripon Fire District serves a Safe Baby Surrender site. A distressed parent who is unable or unwilling to care for a baby can legally, confidentially and safely give up a baby within three days of birth under the Safely Surrendered Baby Law which allows parents to drop off their baby at any County fire station, including the Ripon Fire District, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day without fear of prosecution.
